Fact checking and corrections policy

We are published by Social Streets CIC, a not-for-profit news and media organisation that publishes local news and culture magazines in London, United Kingdom, and we abide by the ‘Fact Checking and Corrections Policy’ of our parent company.

We are committed to upholding the truth and ensuring we only publish information that is factually correct and that has been verified from a trusted source.

Fact checking process

We pride ourselves on the validity of its content, and therefore does whatever it can to be sure that the information presented by its writers is accurate.

As a pioneering publisher of news and culture content for local communities, we understand the importance of approaching claims with scepticism, thinking critically, and upholding accuracy in whatever way possible.

We are committed to verifying all statistics and technical information by crosschecking with source documents and/or clearly stating the source of the information.

This sometimes involves seeking the consultation of an external expert or the primary source of the information and providing them with any necessary information from the content in question for verification.

Writing content

We encourage our in-house and citizen journalists to keep in mind the following considerations when producing articles:

  • Credit, acknowledge, and verify the source(s) of your information.
  • Consider whether you know enough about the information to qualify as a trustable source.
  • Think critically when addressing claims.
  • Never make assumptions.

Internal fact-checking

Our content is fact checked in-house by the publisher.

Opinion pieces includes content that advocates for ideas and draws conclusions based on the interpretation of facts and data, and tells the public what the author or contributor thinks about an event or issue. Where content presented as opinion includes reported facts and quotes, the facts and quotes will be verified.

Posts and ads from politicians.

A “politician” is a current office holder or a candidate running for office, long with political parties and their leaders. We will ensure all words, photos, video and other content is clearly labelled as created by the politician or their campaign.

Links to third party content

Any links in our content to article, video or photo created by someone else will be fact checked and only included if it has been verified by a trusted source.

Paid content

All paid content is clearly labelled on the website, print and on social media as paid content.

Citizen journalists

All content created by our citizen journalists is fact-checked before being published.

We are confident in our integrity and the accuracy of the information provided in our publications. But in the case that a mistake is made, we recognize the importance of admitting to mistakes and diligently working to provide correct information whenever mistakes are made. Consequently, we encourage our readers, contributors, and their sources to provide us with feedback on any of our content.

Corrections will be made immediately online and where appropriate an apology and acknowledgment of the error will be published below the article.
